Louisiana Soccer Association along with US Youth Soccer is excited to announce that the National Youth License will be offered this fall in conjunction with the Baton Rouge Soccer Association in Baton Rouge, LA.

The National Youth License is designed to provide club directors of coaching, youth coaches, and soccer administrators with the knowledge to successfully structure soccer environments for children ages 4-12.

The following will be explored:

  • The role of the facilitator and the role of the coach;
  • the physical, mental and emotional needs and capabilities of players from 4-12;
  • lessons from developmental psychology;
  • and the art of teaching.
    Candidates are videotaped for analysis during live training sessions and those who wish to serve as state and local Youth Module Instructors are certified within this course. It is also a great opportunity for “A” Licensed coaches to receive 8 CEU’s upon successful completion of the course.

GENERAL INFORMATION

Course Location:   TBD
Meals: Meals are not provided; however there are a number of restaurants in the vicinity.
Prerequisites: Candidates must be 18 years of age and hold a “D” License
(State or National). You may attend the course if you do not hold a “D” with written permission from your respective State Director of Coaching.
What to bring: Candidates will be participating in the course. All candidates must provide their own soccer ball for field sessions. Please bring the proper training attire to play.
Cost/Registration: $575 for LSA members, $625 for non-members

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is required to earn a National Youth License?
 
In order to earn the National Youth License, candidates must:

  1. Attend all field and classroom sessions
  2. Submit Care and Prevention / Risk Management tests (group work)
  3. Make presentations on Team/Risk Management
  4. Complete a Practice Coaching Session (1 practice opportunity per candidate)

Candidates are videotaped during this session. The sessions are then reviewed each evening by the staff coach and by fellow candidates.

  1. Complete a Practical Coaching session (formal evaluated by the coaching staff)

What should I expect from the course in terms of classroom or field participation?

Each day features classroom lecture/discussion sessions and field sessions. Candidates are strongly urged to physically prepare for the course. There are no physical tests, but participation is enjoyable and a valuable way to learn through experience.

What is included in the course fee?
 
The course fee includes course administration, staff costs, material fees, a 1-year membership to the US Youth Soccer Coaches Connection, and a National Youth License T-Shirt. It does not include room and board.

How many people can register for the course?

The maximum enrollment is 36 candidates.

How can I register for the National Youth License?

Interested applicants can register by completing and submitting the course registration form along with a non-refundable $100.00 deposit. A copy of the candidate’s license (D License is the minimum) must accompany the application. The course balance must be paid in full no later than two weeks prior to the start of the course (October 22, 2010). Applicants failing to submit final payment by the deadline are subject to having their registration cancelled.

The Laws of the Game take-home exam, and their USSF Coaching School Coach Health Report.

Is there anything I can do to prepare for the National Youth License?

National Youth License candidates are responsible for reading the materials listed below prior to attending the course. Candidates should also print out and complete the Laws of the Game exam (provided following registration) and bring it to the course.
