Janet Whyde Elected Women's Commissioner

Janet Whyde was named as the new Adult Women's Commissioner on January 11, 2009 during the LSA Adult Meeting.  Janet will complete the term vacated by Stacie Schneider when she left the Executive Board to work for LSA. 

Janet is an active member of BRSA; were she started playing soccer five years ago after watching her son, Jakob, play and thinking how much fun the game looked. Once she discovered the existence of an adult league in Baton Rouge through an article in the newspaper, she joined the Baton Rouge Soccer Association on a Co-Ed Over 30 team; she has since expanded her membership to include Co-Ed Open, Women's Open and Over-30, and the Over-40 leagues. She has served as the Women's Over-30 league representative for BRSA since the fall of 2004.

In 2006, to help support her soccer habit, she became a  referee.  She holds the USSF D-license and last year, she helped to organize a "tournament" team of young women players from New Orleans and Baton Rouge area with the goal of sending a women's team from Louisiana to the Region III tournament.  While they didn't make it to the tournament, they did set a precedent that she hopes to build upon as Women's Commissioner.

Janet is eager to get to work on the board, she stated "One of my goals as Women's Commissioner is to improve the visibility of adult amateur soccer in Louisiana to increase membership, especially among women. Not only would I like to see better communications between LSA and the few existing adult women's programs in the state, I would like to see LSA actively work to encourage and foster more programs. " 

She earned a Ph.D. from LSU in American Literature and works for the state's Division of Administration as an IT systems analyst/developer. Her only son is 21 and a student at LSU.
